OBV + A/D Accumulation Score

This script fuses **On-Balance Volume (OBV)** and **Chaikin Accumulation/Distribution Line** into one perfectly normalized, weighted, smoothed score that reveals **exactly** what smart money is doing on a **daily basis** — even when you're watching lower timeframes.
It only moves when real institutional order flow is present. Zero-line crosses and extreme levels have an uncanny ability to call major turns before price even blinks.
Institutional accumulation/distribution, distilled into one clean line.
### Why This Indicator Is Special
- **Z-Score Normalization** → OBV and A/D are forced onto the exact same scale so neither dominates (most combined indicators fail here)
- **Weighted Composite** → Default 50/50, but you can slide it to favor OBV or A/D depending on the asset (huge edge on crypto vs stocks)
- **Daily Resolution Forced** → Shows true daily smart-money flow no matter what chart you're on (add to 1H/4H for god-tier context)
- **Extreme Thresholds** (±1.2 default) with lime/maroon coloring → When these hit, institutions are going nuclear
- **Optional Histogram Mode** + subtle pane background tint → Instant bias recognition
- **Full Alert Suite** → Zero-cross + Extreme breaches (with current score value in the message)
### How to Trade It (The Signals That Actually Print)
**Primary Signals**
- Green triangle + alert → Accumulation just turned ON (smart money buying pressure now dominant)
- Red triangle + alert → Distribution just turned ON (smart money exiting)
**Nuclear Signals**
- Lime color + "EXTREME ACCUMULATION" alert → Institutions aggressively piling in → one of the strongest buy signals on daily
- Maroon color + "EXTREME DISTRIBUTION" alert → Institutions dumping hard → one of the strongest sell/short signals
**Best Uses**
- Zero-cross up + price above daily EMA-9/21 → Swing long bias god mode
- Divergences on daily (price new high + score lower high = top incoming)
- Extreme accumulation while price is basing → Buy the breakout and thank me later
Works insanely well on BTC/ETH, SPX/QQQ, NVDA, TSLA — anything with real institutional volume.
### Settings Explained
- **Z-Score Lookback** (50): Longer = only major regime changes
- **Signal Smoothing** (10): Lower = more responsive, higher = smoother trend
- **OBV Weight** (0.5): Slide toward 1.0 for pure direction-based strength, toward 0.0 for close-location sensitivity
- **Extreme Threshold**: 1.2 is perfect balance — raise to 1.8+ for only the absolute strongest moves
- **Show as Histogram**: MACD-style bars (great for ranging markets)
- **Background tint**: Subtle green/red — you'll love it or disable it
Core Philosophy – What You're Actually Seeing
- Positive score = Daily accumulation dominates (smart money buying)
- Negative score = Daily distribution dominates (smart money selling/exiting)
- The further from zero, the stronger the conviction
- ≥ ±1.2 (default threshold) = **Extreme** levels → institutions are going hard (lime/maroon color + alert)
Because everything is Z-score normalized, OBV and A/D are perfectly comparable and weighted (default 50/50). The EMA smooths out daily chop while keeping it responsive.
Primary Trading Signals (The Ones That Print Money)
1. Zero-Line Crosses
- Green triangle up (bottom of pane) + alert → Score just flipped positive
→ Accumulation regime ON → This is often the very first quiet signal before markup begins
- Red triangle down (top of pane) + alert → Score just flipped negative
→ Distribution regime ON → Time to tighten stops, take profits, or flip short
These daily crosses are high-probability, especially in ranging markets or after prolonged trends.
2. Extreme Threshold Breaches (±1.2 default) – The Nuclear Signals
- Lime color + "EXTREME ACCUMULATION" alert → Institutions are aggressively piling in
→ One of the strongest buy signals you'll ever get on daily
- Maroon color + "EXTREME DISTRIBUTION" alert → Institutions are dumping hard
→ One of the strongest sell/short signals
These don't happen often — but when they do, you pay attention. They're frequently the exact turning points of major moves.
3. Trend Strength & Continuation
- Deep green + rising = Strong accumulation → Stay long, add to winners
- Deep red + falling = Strong distribution → Stay out or short
- Background tint (subtle green/red) gives you instant bias at a glance — even if you're half awake
4. Divergence
- Price new high + Score lower high → Bearish divergence → Top incoming
- Price new low + Score higher low → Bullish divergence → Bottom incoming
On daily timeframe, these divergences are absolute gold. Combine with price structure and you're printing.
Best Practices & Pro Setup Tips
- Chart Placement
- Add to your daily chart → Pure daily institutional view
- OR add to 4H / 1H / 15M charts → You see intraday price action while watching daily smart money flow → God-tier context
- Settings Tweaks That 10x Performance
- OBV Weight (default 0.5):
- Try 0.7–1.0 on stocks where volume spikes on up days matter more
- Try 0.0–0.3 on crypto where close location in range is more meaningful
- Extreme Threshold: 1.0 = more signals, 1.5–2.0 = only the absolute strongest moves
- Histogram Mode: Turn ON if you love MACD-style visuals (I use it on ranging markets)
- Z-Score Lookback: 50 is perfect balance. Increase to 100+ for major regime changes only
- Killer Simple Strategies That Work Insanely Well
1. Daily EMA-9 or EMA-21 + this indicator both green → Long bias god mode
2. Wait for zero-cross up + price above daily EMA → Enter swing longs
3. Extreme accumulation alert while price is in a base → Buy and hold for the breakout
- What Symbols This Dominates On
- BTC, ETH, SOL (crypto)
- SPX, QQQ, NVDA, TSLA, mega-caps (stocks)
- Literally anything with decent volume — but shines brightest where institutions actually trade
This indicator leads price more often than it lags on daily resolution. The alerts mean you don't even have to watch the chart — it literally tells you when smart money flips.
