HTA - AVWAP & OPEN
Overview
This indicator combines two foundational day-trading concepts into a single chart overlay: the 15-Minute Opening Range and an Anchored VWAP (AVWAP) tied precisely to the New York regular trading hours open (09:30 EST/3:30 or 4:30 AM depending on DST).
The primary goal of this tool is to help traders visualize the early morning battleground between buyers and sellers, specifically to identify high-probability "mid-range" trade setups as the morning session develops.
How It Works (The Mechanics)
15-Minute Opening Range: The script automatically identifies the highest high and lowest low of the first 15 minutes of the regular session. It projects these levels across the chart for the remainder of the day, creating a defined structural range.
NY Open Anchored VWAP: Simultaneously, an AVWAP is anchored exactly to the 09:30 EST opening candle. Unlike a standard rolling VWAP, anchoring it to the opening bell tracks the true volume-weighted average price of institutional intraday flow from the moment the session begins.
How to Use It for Mid-Range Trades
While many traders use opening ranges purely for breakout strategies (waiting for a break above the high or below the low), this indicator is designed to capitalize on the price action inside the range.
The AVWAP as a Dynamic Midline: Inside the 15-minute Opening Range, the NY AVWAP frequently acts as a magnetic midline or dynamic support/resistance.
Mean Reversion: If price extends to the top or bottom of the 15-minute range but fails to break out, traders can use the rejection to target the NY AVWAP in the middle of the range.
Mid-Range Continuation: If price crosses and retests the AVWAP from above or below, traders can look for continuation setups targeting the outer boundaries of the 15-minute Opening Range.
Key Features:
- Highlights the 15-min Opening Range High and Low.
- Plots a precise AVWAP anchored to the New York Open.
- Clean visual layout to reduce chart clutter.
