I think with the chart in question, it does illustrate that emerging patterns that fail, are often continuation patterns. I read it somewhere that head and shoulders can be used somewhat reliably as a continuation indicator once that head has been taken out (tom clancy reference). I think many newer traders often confuse the pattern failure, with the failure of the pattern, when in fact, there is a 'two for one' bonus with this pattern because when it fails, you can do the other.
